I quickly found the instructions on getting it working with Live, but have not been able to get Live 9 to see it at all (either in the MIDI inputs or the orange top right corner "MIDI incoming" square). The device does a quick light demonstration when I plug it in (I do not have the A/C adapter but I believe the Z1 can be powered via USB) and then goes black. I just bought Traktor Z1 (ebay) to use with Ableton 9 (I do not own or intend to use the Traktor software itself). That way you can label the keys and wont be so worried about smashing the keys up or pushing your laptop off the stand. A variation of this is to get a usb computer keyboard. I will say that I prefer -based on mobilish performance requirements- to have an audio card than a blank (requires midi mapping and those lights wont light up without a custom script) midi controller. A very compact, two channel no-frills mixer designed especially for Native Instruments’ range of DJ software, Traktor Pro 2 for computers and Traktor DJ for iOS devices. Because each individual has a different goal and style of playing a live set, the term "better" creates an ambiguity that may cause disagreement over purchase options.
